1104 HD HISTORIC DISTRICT OVERLAY DISTRICT

  • A. Application This overlay zone is intended to preserve structures of historic and architectural value by regulating the construction, alteration, repair, moving and demolition of such structures. This overlay can include neighborhoods or single buildings. Historic districts are shown as overlay zones on the Zoning Map, and may include properties associated with broad patterns, events, and/or people significant in local, state or national history, which embody the distinctive characteristics of a broad range of building types and architectural styles and which may possess high artistic value and/or represent the work of a master builder, architect, landscape architect, or other designer, and which lack individual distinction but which add to the historic district zone's status as a significant and distinguishable socio-cultural entity.

  • B. Development Review and Approval The Historic District Commission is authorized to regulate the alteration, repair, construction, demolition, removal of any exterior structure and/or appurtenance within any Historic District identified on the Providence Overlay Zoning District Maps of the Official Zoning Map adopted in accordance with this ordinance.
